Shopping online is increasingly becoming many women’s shopping method of choice. And why not, when it is so convenient and easy. You can shop at any time of the day or night, and quite often you will get a much better range and cheaper as well.
Clothes shopping for those of us who don’t fit retails idea of what size Australian women are, can find regular shopping an absolute nightmare. The majority of mainstream Australian retailers are just doing plus sizes clothing wrong. I find plus size fashion so frustrating here in Australia. We simply do not have the population to support real people. I once spoke to some would be fashion designers (students)and told them to consider the huge gap in the market place. Afterwards an established designer came and spoke with me in a very defensive tone explaining how hard it was to set up more sizes for the ranges that she was develping. Poppy cock!!
Girls with curvy bodies should consider a body shape analysis. That way you will receive a report with all the best styles to suit you, so shopping on line gets easier. No more dud buys with a good reference of your own shape. These reports include horizontal and verticle measurements, so all your body is included. Ie how th dress for short legs and big hips, or how to dress for short torso and big bust.
I have also successfully used these on line plus 14 for some customers.

I can highly recommend No Exceptions Clothing, an Australian independent plus-size clothing retailer. They don’t have a huge range, but what they do, they do well, and they have free shipping in Australia!

I think for plus sized girls it’s all about getting the right shapes but in good qualitiy fabrics. You are better off paying more for a wrap dress that drapes over you and clings to ALL of you.

Thank you for this guide – I’ve discovered some real gems in your list!
It’s a shame that Australian plus sized clothing is still so expensive compared to some overseas stores, especially with our dollar being so strong now. Every few months I place an order with Forever21+ (shipping is $52, so I order a lot at one time) and although it’s not top quality clothing I’ve always been able to get a few seasons out of each piece. I’d rather be doing more of my shopping locally, but most Aussie retailers can’t match that kind of value yet!
Another designer I would recommend is Leona Edmiston. Her dresses don’t follow conventional sizing (sizes are from XS to 6) and it helps to take your mind off the size on the tag. I wear LE dresses in sizes 2, 4 and 6 depending on the style, so it’s usually a good idea to try them on in store until you understand the different way they’re cut. Now that I know my sizes, I order online without any stress and delivery is overnight (or same day in Sydney). Dresses start at about $80 and can be as expensive as $500, but there are often good sales and the fit is AMAZING!
As a rough guide, a size 6 Leona Edmiston dress is about a size 16/18. Until recently dresses only ran to size 4, so I’m hopeful that they’ll continue to extend their sizes over time.

Does anyone know of an online store that sells affordable shoes which are deep and wide-fitting as my feet are small in size, yet are wide and high.
